I implemented time travel, time portals (which can make characters from videogames or other campaigns to appear) and a time loop, at the start they wake up in the very last place of the story, what i want to make is for them to make an adventure for them to remember who they were, and some bosses or enemies (even friends or rivals) have the power of controling time or creating a portal to spawn something from another place (even alternate universes or not even those worlds/universes), there's also the "Time Heroes", which made the world the players are in advance. Once the players visit all cities they can then go to the final place where they fight the true final boss which actually uses some bosses the players fought as puppets to help him, once they defeat him, they see a bright light like an explosion, and then they wake up at the final place at level 3 (like how they started) because instead of defeating the final boss, they used so much force that they make a loop and go back to the start. (Also this is my first ever campaign as a DM)

Man, I hadn't caught up on C3 for a while, then I saw Sam's video and immediately went through all the recent videos. It was absolutely gutting when FCG sacrificed himself, knowing what he'd been going through, knowing that the whole group would have known, just makes it hit so freaking hard.

Travis portrayed Fjord a gentleman very well. He even asks for her hand in marriage at the very end.

I haven't watched a lot of Campaign 3 completely. I've watched episodes 1-12 all the way through I think, done a lot of clips, skimming, recap reading, and then picked back up fully with the live show, episode 98 where Sam was able to come back. From everything I've seen I think my favorite moments have to be separated into two. Bell's Hells C3, and Downfall. Spoilers for Downfall below, specifically Part 3. In Bell's Hells journey, of what I have seen and remember vividly, I think my favorite moment is probably when Laudna goes over her backstory, in Whitestone, and how you can see the people at the table who hadn't already put it together before realize not just how Laudna died, but what was done with her body, because they were all there as players for it. I saw someone say how, intentional or not, it was beautiful that Marisha made a character who took this horrific and monstrous moment from the start of all of this and says "These weren't just throwaway victims, they were people and they mattered," and uses Laudna to show just how much they matter. From Downfall, my favorite moment (and there are a lot to choose from) is fucking Noshir Dalal with The Emissary at any given time. This childlike wonder mixed with love and loyalty, such little understanding but so loveable for it. And then when it's all over, the scene with the Matron after The Emissary does his job and is destroyed because of it. Noshir used this gruff, gravely, almost scarred-sounding voice for The Emissary the entire time but when at the end with the Matron, Noshir switches to a soft almost child-like voice. And it almost makes me cry every time I rewatch that scene for reasons I just cannot understand. Honestly hope Jay touches Downfall in some capacity in the coming months because that 3-parter had so much emotion, philosophy, ethical conundrums, and tragedy. Even some sneaky references. I think Downfall is the best Critical Role has been at the table in a long while.

My favorite moments in Campaign 3 are Chetney becoming a werewolf and the cast laughing at each other due to Sam’s jokes about FCG and the other automaton’s names.

FCG's death showed just how absolutely eloquent Sam is. He managed to stay completely in character While telling the people at the table how much they mean to him.

The twist of the knife is when you remember that in their new game Daggerheart, you can choose to die in a "Blaze of Glory" which lets you do something TRULY EPIC, however there is no bringing you back from the dead. Sam/FCG chose this option. And it was because FCG would, and Sam was facing cancer and didn't know if he was coming back before the end of C3.

What infuriates me is how I heard about fans bashing Matt after FCG's death, how he rigged the fight to be too hard and it was his fault for FCG's death. Anyone watching could see the heartbreak in Matt's face. He knew what was going on with his friend, he knew he m8ght have to take time away and he even planned for how he would keep FCG around but incapacitated until Sam could return. While they'd discussed the possibility of FCG's core going off, I don't think Matt ever though Sam would intentionally set it off. And you could see his heart beeak when he realized Sam was determined to do so. For his friends. For himself. There are just so many layers to this one decission. It really was, for all the pain, a beautiful moment. Because it mattered. To everyone. In so many ways. R.I.P FCG.

Was anybody else expecting Brennan Lee Bullykin to slip FCG the Aeormaton into his 3-shot taking place in Aeor? Especially the moment with the sick boy, since Matt Mercer had a scene that revealed a child’s soul next to his own?

When FCG did that in the campaign it was sad. But it hit even harder after knowing he had cancer and the rest of the players knew that

Lord, I have such complex feelings on Sam, FCG (Scanlan,Nott, and Loquaious too), some of his R/P choices. They hit so many of my trauma buttons. I do know he is a good and amazing guy regardless of how some things hit. My favorite campaign 3 moments almost always involve Orym & Laudna.

Nothing quite like the emotional connection one can have to a character they have put so much into. Its a big part of TTRPGs, it's what makes them fun to play, and in cases like Critical Role, fun to watch.

I really like what you said about letting the party shine. I'm planning a Sorcadin build that's primarily going to be in the front line, buffing allies or controlling enemies, and being more defense/utility focused. Doesn't mean I can't break out the Nova Smites when necessary, but I only plan on going full nova when it's warranted, if a party member is in danger or my character gets especially pissed off. And using the nova selectively will make those moments hit even harder since they won't be happening every fight. I love being supportive, and helping the rest of the party shine at what they're good at. Himbo/Golden retriever group dad vibes lmao

A fun way to play with this off the top of my head would be with a DM who treats dice as a resource, or currency Something bad happens to you, maybe as a result of an occasion where the players needed to make a deal for help, and as a result the DM takes a die away from the affected parties Then all it takes is one productive secret discussion, and suddenly your friendly tabletop car salesman has a neat surprise to bust out the next time the going gets tough Combine with creative use of dice jails for presentation, and you could even mess around with them not knowing which one they're bargaining for until the deal is struck

I know I’m late to the party but I wanted to share a bit on my favorite moment that I played recently. In a sci-fi setting my character is an exiled noble on the run from his family who wants him dead. He’s also a bit of a coward, but has toughened up over the course of many attempts on his life and the hardships of a war on the planet he’s stuck on. All this culminating to a moment during an infiltration gone bad where he gets trapped in a collapsed tunnel crawling with baddies, a number of which were specifically hired to kill him. Finally fed up with everything, he faced his aggressors and shouted out “Come on, TEST YOUR SOULS TO MINE!” Before absolutely tearing them apart with vibro-swords. It’s a character defining moment for him, as he spent the duration of the campaign afraid to fight, and tended not to face his problems directly, but it was here he openly declared to his enemies that he would not back down for anything, and he won.

After not watching or playing DND for several years, ACOC made me fall back in love with it. It has so much incredible story-telling and emotion-evoking. It is simply the best, top-to-bottom.

True art affects your emotions, it can bring sadness, joy, etc. My favorite art is books; when a character that you know and love dies you actually cry…and if they are resurrected you actually cry at the reunion of friends (Salvatore’s “The Companions” comes to mind). That’s the beauty of art. I’m not exactly a “Critter”, in that I don’t have the time to watch people play D&D several hours each week (though I do enjoy watching short “recap” videos like this…and I enjoy playing the game myself), but I understand the emotional attachment. This is clearly one of the most emotional moments, and it’s not just between characters but also between two real life friends. Art at it finest!

What gets me is immersion. Aabria breaks immesion and does what i cant stand: Telling someone how THEIR character feels. Its THEIR CHARACTER, not yours! I cant stand that. Why play with players if you control them in every way and tell them what they think about every other event that happens. Thats narration yes, but D & D isnt narration only, it's an experience with others

Something I've learned: A "sellout" is someone who makes more than you. That's all. It's just a trigger-word Usually, that's the step before they turn their backs on what they love, but most don't realize when you're viewed as a "sellout", then the community turned its back on you. It's easier to blame a less populated target. That's why it gets construed.

Currently playing a sorcerer in a campaign heavily based off of Highschool DxD. (But toned back on the fan service thank goodness!) this character spent most of his life up until this point being the outsider/loner and that he never really belonged anywhere. Then he awakened to his powers after getting ambushed by a monster. He had power, he was special…and was told by other supernatural beings in this world that if he ever gets caught using blatant magic in front of a mortal, it would bring an end to an interdimensional ceasefire between the heavenly and hellish factions. He hates this feeling of having all this power at is fingertips but being repeatedly told that he’s not really allowed to use it outside of specific circumstances. It’s breed resentment between him and the equivalent of his boss, and may make him a prime target to get recruited by an anarchist faction that believes that the supernaturals of the world shouldn’t have to hide in the shadows trying to keep this peace that everyone knows is never gonna last. What’s scarier is that it’s starting to get to the point where he might accept their invitation and usher in the end of days just so that he can do what he wants with the powers he’s been blessed with

I as a DM have put an indominable spirit in my games as a nemesis for the party. Shes always two levels above the partys highest level person. She has little tweaks like +2 dmg if shes attacking her nemesis. Otherwise shes just a really strong berserker x battlemaster mix that I minmaxed myself. I often put her as an enemy in situations where they cannot destroy the body. And "resurrect" her when they inevidably run away. It came to the point where she just flat out silenced partys wizard and made him scared shitless of her due to me just DASHING towards him every fight. Just to mess with the strongest dmg dealer.

I almost exclusively do homebrew or fan made games. A lot of my favorite stuff about the classic DND world have either been pacified, watered down, or smoothed with this kind of political stuff. I play with anyone and everyone of all types of backgrounds. I don’t think people should be praising hasbro for “queer baiting.” It’s not from a genuine place.

i was a hyper intelligent dragon scholar, aeons old, legit font of knowledge, but i was the most quiet and respectable of the group, scholar yes, heavy introverted shut-in? also yes. but pretty sure the only time i insulted somebody in the game was when one of the party members asked my age. for reference, Female dragon. had to roleplay the audacity lmao, it was good fun.

The way that i play a morally grey character is simply to make him useful to the party... For example, party really needs money and we just happen to be in a non inportant city full of loot... Nobody will notice, a few family safes broken into, and a few pockets missing some items Besides the party will thank me 😂😂😂
